Why Shakeology?

Shakeology transformation

I never thought these results were possible, until I started drinking Shakeology, which helped me improve, and focus on, my nutrition and health.

I have had a number of people ask me what is so special about Shakeology and why I have chosen this health shake over the many other ones out there, so I thought I would take a moment to share the process I have gone through in order to make this decision.

I was drinking green smoothies and health drinks for ages before “giving in” and trying Shakeology. You see, I had known about Shakeology for just over 4 years, but I was convinced that I was able to replicate the benefits of the shake without having to pay the monthly price for Shakeology. I bought maca root, spirulina, schizandra (which turned out to be 90% filler), copious amounts of spinach daily, ginger powder, ashwagandha powder (which also turned out to be mostly filler), and the list goes on and on…I added them into my shakes every morning. This quickly got quite expensive, rather laborious, and quite ineffective, so I decided to go simple. You only need 3 or 4 ingredients anyway, right?

I would drink my shakes, but an hour later I would be hungry, I didn’t have much energy, and I wanted to snack throughout the day. Then, over the Summer in 2014, I saw PiYo had officially been released. I really wanted to try that fitness program, and since there was a sale going on I ordered my first bag of Shakeology.

Now, over the years I have changed from being a “student eater” (aka “a musician”: someone who eats anything they can find or afford, especially anything – literally ANYTHING – that is free!), to being a pretty fussy (in a healthy way) “mindful eater.” A few years ago, downing a shake I knew nothing about (no matter how good or bad it was) would have been no problem, but with my late onset fussiness, coming to terms with drinking Shakeology daily was quite a challenge. So I decided to research each and every one of the ingredients, look at their effects and benefits, and also find out where these ingredients came from (are they sustainable, are they GMO-free, etc.).

After digging a little deeper than just surface level (we all know how trustworthy the internet can be…) I uncovered some important and valuable information. I have been blown away by what I have come to understand about the ingredients in this product, and the company that makes it! I am sure many of you have experienced this before, but when you are excited about something and what it has done for you, you want to shout if from the rooftops. So, I signed up as a coach.

What is Shakeology?

Shakeology is a nutrient-dense, superfood-packed, whole food health shake. It is made from a combination of proteins, phytonutrients, antioxidants, enzymes, prebiotics, and probiotics, as well as containing many other pretty rare ingredients, including numerous adaptogens, camu-camu, and maca root – things we don’t get from an ordinary diet. Shakeology is NOT a protein shake, although there is a significant amount of protein in each serving. It is a meal replacement health shake, made from whole foods that are sustainable and are sourced from sustainable and fair trade certified farms. Here is a list of the ingredients in Shakeology and their benefits:

What makes Shakeology so special?

The simple answer is, the ingredients! And the fact that there is NO soy, all ingredients are GMO-free and sustainable, and the only reason Shakeology can’t be called “gluten free” is because it is manufactured in a facility that is not certified gluten-free (even though all the ingredients are technically gluten free). The ethics involved in the production of Shakeology, the people who formulated and created it, and the company that has named and marketed it are a deeply moral and ethical organization, who are environmentally conscious and invested in helping people. These are the reasons I became a part of this company, I wanted to be part of their greatness, even if it was just a small part. Still, the thing that has impacted me the most are the effects and benefits I have experienced first hand from drinking this shake daily (and so has my husband). It felt expensive to order two bags a month at first, but slowly we have realized that what we are getting is worth every penny. We had to decide where we were going to spend our money, what were we going to invest in.
