I was lying awake last night after chatting with some people who were desperate for some help with their health goals (lowering cholesterol and losing weight), and at the end of the conversation they decided they didn’t have it in their budget to get healthy.
This gave me a flashback to my intense wedding gigging days back in South Africa. I literally played hundreds of weddings all over the place with my trio or quartet. BUT,whenever we were being booked for a wedding the matter of budget and cost always came up. People wanted to save money by having solo violin for their ceremonies, but here’s the catch, they wanted it to sound like the Tango scene from Scent of a Woman !?!
Musicians were always the last to be budgeted for, and
people always wanted the cheapest price. Sadly, the saying is true, “you get what you pay for.”
Your wedding march played by solo violin is going to sound empty, and your unrealistic expectations are not going to be met. Sure you saved some money, but was it worth it?
This makes me think of my health and fitness journey. I took forever to jump onboard with Beachbody because (being an underpaid musician) it all felt very expensive. I wanted a deal, I felt I didn’t have it in my budget to get healthy. But eventually I looked back and realized that all the quick fixes I had been using were not working and doing terrible things to my body, as well as adding up financially, so I decided to cut back on unnecessary nonsense and truly invest in myself.
You really do get what you pay for – whether it be music for your wedding, food that you eat, or health and fitness programs to help you change your lifestyle.
The kicker is that I run free groups all the time. Free healthy eating groups, free yoga groups, free fitness and nutrition groups…there really should be no excuse. Sure, I saw the HUGE potential of starting my own health and fitness business and helping people feel the best they’ve ever felt, BUT more than that, I just wanted to HELP. My life had been changed and I wanted to shout that from the rooftops. So I decided to pay it forward and help others do the same.
Of course free is always nice, but if you want your wedding music to sound like the Tango from Scent of a Woman, then you have to be willing to pay for the whole band!
Invest in yourself!
YOU ARE WORTH IT!
