Transformation Tuesday: Babies and Barbells

Amanda GuldToday I have the amazing honor or sharing the transformation story of a truly inspiring, uplifting, and caring teammate, Amanda Guld. Amanda is a Kindergarten Autistic Support/ABA teacher, who is currently on leave as she spends time with her sweet baby boy, Brock, who was born in June of 2014. She is also an Independent Team Beachbody Coach, who is helping those around her live healthy and fulfilling lives. Here is her story:

What inspired you to begin this transformation journey?
Despite eating in a manner that I thought was ‘clean,’ and working out at a cross-fit box 3 time a week during my entire pregnancy, I still gained 52 pounds with my first baby. I promised myself, that I did not care what it took, I would wear a bikini on the beach in the summer 2015! In mid-August, I began working with a trainer 1-2 times per month and completing the prescribed workouts 2-3 times a week on my own in the gym. While I had always been a gym-goer, I now had to make sure that someone could watch the baby and so I ended up trying to limit my time spent away from home. By October I had had enough. I joined a clean eating challenge led by a friend, and 2 weeks later I was signing up as a coach. I have not looked back since!

What Beachbody programs have you done?  
21 Day Fix and 3 Day Refresh, I am currently in Month 2 of Insanity Max 30 (I also own, and have tried some of the workouts from P90x3 and T25!)

The 21 Day Fix, along with Shakeology, were total game changers for me! In my first round I lost 7.5 lbs!! The workouts were challenging (but fun) and the color-coded containers re-taught me about portion control. I also loved the support I found in the accountability group on Facebook! As for Shakeology, I have had my ‘daily dose of dense nutrition’ just about every day, since November 7th, and I continue to look forward to it. Some days I am lucky enough to blend it up with some almond butter and frozen fruit, and then others I just shake it up with some almond milk and ice! Yum!!

What motivated you to keep going?
My son, who is now crawling and climbing! I knew that I would need to be healthy in order to keep up with him over time. I never want to say “sorry, but I can’t climb the monkey bars with you,” or “no, I don’t want to ride bikes today.” I want to set an awesome example of fitness and health!

Was there ever a time you felt completely discouraged?  What helped you overcome those feelings of discouragement?
There are days when my 30-minute workout gets interrupted 6 times, and I definitely feel frustrated, but I remind myself that at least I am doing it and continue to “push play” regardless. I try to keep my goals and positive affirmations around the house to really help me so those ‘down days’ are kept to a minimum.

I am most proud of turning away from the excuses and creating a healthy life for myself and my family. I also think that it’s amazing that less than 8 months after the birth of my baby boy, I am able to share my story. It can be done!

How has your life changed from before you began this journey to now?
I have a renewed energy that I never thought would be possible as a new mom.

What made you decide to become a Beachbody Coach?  I have always had a passion for health and fitness and helping others (my husband and I met in a local bodybuilding gym!). When the opportunity arose for me to become a Beachbody coach, I almost didn’t believe it – I could help others, while doing something I enjoy, from my own home?! Amazing!

What is your favorite Shakeology flavor and recipe?
Vanilla and chocolate (I cannot decide, so I get vanilla one month, chocolate the next. I love them both)!
My favorite recipe:
1 scoop vanilla shakeology
1 purple container of frozen grapes
1 tablespoon almond or peanut butter
4 oz almond milk
8 oz water
Ice
Blend and serve!

Any words of advice for someone who is just starting up with a new Beachbody program?

  1. Consistency is key!
  2. Food is fuel! (From my husband!)
  3. Find an accountability partner!  For me, that’s my husband.  He not only did the 21 Day Fix with me, but now we hit those Max 30 workouts daily and we’re already planning ahead to begin Body Beast together in March!
