Healthy Homemade Banana Split

Having one of these always reminds me of being back home and barbecuing with my family (what we call braaing in South Africa). My brother was always in charge of helping to get these homemade banana splits on the warm coals after the meal. They are super easy and simple to make, and a great way to satisfy a sweet craving!

What you will need:

  • medium banana(s)
  • 80% (or higher) dark chocolate bar
  • unsweetened shredded coconut
  • raw walnuts
  • any other toppings you enjoy

Directions:

Pre-heat oven to 350°F
Place medium banana on aluminum foil, creating a makeshift bowl.
Slit the banana length ways and press in blocks of dark chocolate.
Place in oven to warm the banana and melt the chocolate, approximately 8-10minutes.
Top with shredded coconut and chopped walnuts.
ENJOY!

Note: If you are going to place these on the grill after BBQing, make sure the coals are not still too hot, and completely wrap the bananas in foil, closing up the top as well. Leave them on the coals for a few minutes, then remove, open the foil, and top with your favorite toppings.
